Why you Need to Hire an SEO Consultant?

November 15th, 2008 12:52 am

Now, you have your website in place, all polished up and ready to start receiving search engine traffic. You want sales to start rolling in. First things first, how do you start getting traffic to that nicely polished site? Well, if you really want to see your website succeed in the search engines (by that I mean, bring you highly targeted traffic and lots of it), you will stand the best chance of success if you look to an seo consultant for help.
Search engine optimisation is not rocket science, it’s chemistry!

I’d probably be the first to suggest it, but to me seo is like chemistry. A correct mix of the right compounds can have great results, but mix the wrong compounds together, and you could be in for a visit to the A and E! It’s the same thing with seo, get things wrong and the results can be devastating. Knowing which methods produce which results is essential. This knowledge can only come from the years of experience and expertise an seo consultant has.

SEO needs to be carried out by a professional, but obviously it is possible to DIY SEO. Personally I would not recommend this approach to anyone, as seo is that important. To be able to do it professionally, like any skill worth having, it needs to be slogged out.

Many people do not have the time or the mindset to be able to carry out search engine optimisation effectively. Like I don’t have the time to go out and take a plumbing course to figure out how I can fix that blasted boiler in my kitchen. It takes knowledge, creativity, the right tools, patience, and a lot of hard work to become an expert in seo, and that is what an search engine optimisation consultant has in abundance.

SEO is not a black art or shady from of marketing, contrary to what people may say. SEO is a skillset that requires a lot of hard work and an attention to detail.
Web Designers are not SEO Consultants

With all due respect to web designers (and I work with a lot of them and know them personally), they are not seo consultants. They may offer seo services as part of web design packages, but this is not complete seo. Often, my designer colleagues’ take on seo varies a great deal to that of an seo expert consultants.

It takes years of work and training before you become really good at web design, and once they’re qualified and working as a designer, their spare time is very few and far between. I think it would be hard for someone who is a web designer to go and take the time and training needed to establish themselves as an expert seo.

It’s exactly the same for SEO consultants in terms of web design. I have basic knowledge of web design, such as html and maybe a little css here and there, but I would find it hard to find the time to go out and become really good at it.

Also, it is common place for clients to come to me with a new website design, which is supposed to be seo’d by the web designer. Only for me to analyze later on and very little has been done (this happens more often than you may think). Not nearly enough for your site to start receiving quality search engine traffic.

If you really want to increase the quality and quatity of your organic search engine traffic, then you must look into using the services of a professional seo consultant.
